Grade 2 – Broken Youth EP

Band websitelabel website
grade2 Grade 2 from the Isle of Wight are the latest addition to the English Oi! family. The boys are all minors but you can’t hear so when listening to their music. The band plays old fashioned Oi! Oi! Music! in the vein of bands like On File, On The Job or Booze & Glory.

Opening song and title track Broken Youth is a good uptempo song with a good sounding bass guitar. The opening riff of the song Day After Day sounds like i heard it before, but since i can’t remind where i heard it and because i like the tune i couldn’t care less whether it’s original or not.

The flipside continues with From The Shadows, another mid tempo song with good sing a long chorusses and a prominent bass guitar. The last song is called Who Rules The Streets. It’s a bit longer than the other songs i think it’s my favourite on the EP.

The vocals sometimes sound a little bit forced, but the song writing as well as the production sound very good. The bass and guitar give enough room for eachother to put their mark on the music and the snare drum sounds like it’s supposed to be (no dull drum sound here).

Considering the fact this band was only founded a year ago i think it’s about time they start working on a full-lenght. They got the required skills and the required enthusiasm, so what more do you want?
