In 2011 Suedehead released, within a short period of time, three EP’s to introduce theirselves. Especially the (So) Frantic and In Motion EP’s made a huge impression on me. Although the year 2012 didn’t resulted in any new releases the band toured and played with bands like Flogging Molly and Social Distortion.
A year later the band presents a new 7″ single with the song Lying In Bed on the A-side and and a soul-ed up cover from Fugazi’s Waiting Room on the flipside. The new song continues where they left off after their previous releases, a mid-tempo mod inspired powerpop song completed with the addition of a brass section. Although musically this song could also be part of one of their previous EP’s, this one has a fuller and warmer sound compared to previous recordings.
The flipside really amazes me. Although i’m not a big Fugazi fan – i prefer Minor Threat – i surely appreciate their music. The song Waiting Room originally appeared on the Fugazi’s selftitled debute 12″ and you have to listen to it a few times to recognise the original. Suedehead play it uptempo, vocals follow a different melody, the bass is pulled backwards and again the brass section complete the song. Impressive is an understatement.
